The Las Vegas Raiders have built an effective front office under general manager John Spytek, now in his second year. The team recently completed a widely regarded successful 2026 NFL Draft, further strengthening their football operations.

As the Raiders show improved leadership and competitiveness, other NFL teams are likely to take notice. Moreover, the continued growth of their football management expertise is sure to be recognized by teams across the league.

The Minnesota Vikings are seeking a new general manager. Alec Lewis of The Athletic identified several potential candidates, including Raiders assistant general manager Brian Stark, who brings a wealth of football experience.

“Here is a new name to know,” Lewis wrote in his April 28 article. “Stark, who was the Denver Broncos‘ director of college scouting from 2016 to 2024, followed his close friend John Spytek to the Las Vegas Raiders. This background is just a start. Stark coached at San Diego State from 2000 to 2008. A quarterback there during that time was Vikings coach Kevin O’Connell, who also has strong football credentials.

“Stark is an executive who is aware of O’Connell’s vision and abilities. His evaluation chops are worth a mention, too. He began his NFL career as a college scout on the West Coast. Additionally, football relationships developed over time could benefit the Vikings’ current college scouting staff.”

Recently, the Raiders traded former Top 10 pick Tyree Wilson and a 2026 seventh-round pick to the New Orleans Saints for a fifth-round selection (No. 150). Las Vegas used this pick to draft Arizona safety Dalton Johnson. For football teams, trades like these are vital for depth and draft assets.

Although Wilson was the seventh overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, he was not selected by the current leadership. Raiders VP of Player Personnel Brandon Hunt explained the decision to move on. Furthermore, football team building depends on strong decision-making skills.

“We saw it as a fresh start for him and for us,” Hunt told reporters on April 25. “The phone was ringing throughout the draft. When that call came, we looked at where we were as a team and the decisions made in free agency and the draft. To summarize, leadership plays a huge role in football organizations’ success.

“We felt it was a great opportunity for him and for us. We wish him all the best. We’re thankful for his contributions as a Raider and think he’ll do a great job in New Orleans.”

On April 27, Wilson told the media in New Orleans he is satisfied with the trade and believes it was the right time for both parties to move on after three seasons. It is clear that football provides dynamic paths for professional growth and change.

“I wouldn’t say need, but I wanted a change of scenery,” Wilson told reporters on April 27. “I love Vegas, the people, and the opportunities there, but I feel it wasn’t off to the best start. There’s almost always a coaching change every year. Here in New Orleans, the trend is upward, and I’m grateful to be here and for the opportunity.” Football continues to offer new opportunities for players and front offices alike.
