Dana White Reveals Doctors Suspect Torn ACL After Conor McGregor’s Devastating UFC 329 Injury

LAS VEGAS — UFC 329 had everything lined up to become one of the biggest nights in promotional history. A sold-out T-Mobile Arena, a record-breaking gate, an electric crowd, and the long-awaited return of Conor McGregor created an atmosphere unlike any other in recent memory.

Then, just 69 seconds into the main event, it was over.

McGregor suffered a serious knee injury moments after the opening bell. Bringing an abrupt end to his highly anticipated rematch with Max Holloway and leaving the Las Vegas crowd stunned.

Dana White: Doctors Believe It’s an ACL Injury

Speaking during the post-fight press conference, UFC CEO Dana White admitted the ending was as disappointing for the promotion as it was for the fans. While McGregor had not yet received a final diagnosis, White revealed what UFC medical staff believe happened.

“We’re assuming a blown ACL,” White said. “I’m no doctor, but that’s what I figured when I saw it. Doctors think the same thing, too.”

If confirmed, the injury would mark another devastating setback for McGregor after spending nearly five years recovering from the broken leg he suffered against Dustin Poirier in 2021.

Five-Year Layoff Takes Its Toll

White acknowledged that returning to elite-level mixed martial arts after such a lengthy absence is an enormous challenge.

“Everybody who knows anything about the fight business knows five years off in this sport is rough,” White said.

The UFC president expected fireworks between McGregor and Holloway.

“I was expecting at least a one-round war or who knew what Conor was capable of as far as cardio or whatever else after a five-year layoff.”

Instead, the bout ended before either fighter could establish any rhythm.

No Signs of Injury Before the Fight

Following the bizarre sequence, speculation immediately surfaced that McGregor may have entered the contest already injured. White firmly rejected that theory.

He pointed to McGregor’s energetic appearance throughout fight week, particularly during Thursday’s heated press conference faceoff, where McGregor sprinted onto the stage before aggressively meeting Holloway in the center.

“The doctors check them out before the fight, and he looked damn good at the press conference, and he looked fine at the weigh-ins,” White said.

White also noted that any visible sign of an injury would almost certainly have been noticed given the unprecedented attention surrounding the event.

“If anybody saw anything that could’ve possibly made him look weak or injured leading up to this fight… somebody would’ve seen something.”

One Jump Changed Everything

Although no official cause has been confirmed, the injury appears to have occurred immediately after McGregor attempted a jumping kick seconds into the fight.

As he landed, his knee buckled. He collapsed to the canvas multiple times without taking a strike before referee Mike Beltran waved off the contest. Awarding Holloway the victory. The unfortunate ending brought the highest-grossing UFC event in company history to a shocking conclusion.

Dana White declined to speculate about McGregor’s future or potential next opponent until doctors determine the severity of the injury. If the suspected ACL tear is confirmed, another lengthy rehabilitation process awaits the former two-division champion.

For now, the focus shifts from comeback hopes to recovery. What was supposed to be one of the greatest nights of Conor McGregor’s career instead became another heartbreaking chapter in one of combat sports’ most remarkable journeys.
