The Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award is a tremendous honor to be bestowed upon any player in their career. The award is named after Chicago Bears Hall of Fame running back Walter Payton and is given annually each year at the end of the NFL season.
This year, one of the nominees is Las Vegas Raiders defensive back, Maxx Crosby. Crosby is being honored for the work that he has done in the Las Vegas community. Crosby is a two-time nominee.
Not only is he a leader on the football field, but he’s also a leader in his community. Some of the community work he’s involved in includes the Raiders Foundation, which supports community veterans, health and wellness initiatives, and its commitment to youth enrichment activities. He also works with animal rescue programs in the Las Vegas area. It is an aspect of community service that he is very passionate about.
Crosby has said in a recent interview via the Raiders team website that he loves giving back. “I love giving back. I love doing things for other people, it makes me happy.”
Crosby is also an avid supporter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Not only does he donate his time and resources to Raider-led initiatives, but he also often gives his time and efforts to his alma mater, Eastern Michigan. He and his wife Rachel recently donated $1 million to the second phase of Eastern Michigan’s Championship Building Plan, which is a program aimed at providing more support to student-athletes and the community surrounding Eastern Michigan’s campus.
His attitude, tenacious play, and his passion for others are why he was nominated again.
All 32 nominees will receive a $55,000 donation to the charity of their choice. The winner of the award will receive $250,000 to gift to the charity of their choice. Each of the 32 nominees will be honored during Super Bowl week in New Orleans. The winner will be announced on February 6th, during the NFL Honors Award telecast that will air on Fox and the NFL Network.
