NFL teams have used various strategies for organizational rebuilding, influenced by factors such as the salary cap, draft picks, and coaching staff effectiveness. In fact, the nfl has seen many franchises succeed through careful roster management.
The Raiders have tried multiple strategies to regain the continuity and success that defined the organization in the past. Following the 2026 draft and the selection of quarterback Fernando Mendoza, the team now appears focused on raising its overall standard.
Over the years, I have observed teams experiment with roster construction and team-building. Successful examples include the Detroit Lions, Los Angeles Rams after Super Bowl LVI, and the recent progress of the Jacksonville Jaguars. These organizations succeeded by increasing depth and youth, a strategy the Raiders should emulate. Notably, the nfl rewards adaptability and smart drafting.
This approach makes the team younger, increases competition, and helps players perform at their best. While it may sound cliché, I have seen it succeed.
The Carolina Panthers are a strong example. A few years ago, they struggled due to limited talent and depth. After hiring General Manager Dan Morgan in 2024, the team prioritized adding depth and youth at key positions. As a result, the Panthers are now positioned as potential contenders in 2026 following an aggressive offseason.
General Manager John Spytek and Head Coach Klint Kubiak understand the importance of building depth for long-term success. Lessons from teams in Los Angeles, Jacksonville, Detroit, and Carolina offer a proven path for returning the Raiders to contender status. Moreover, nfl organisations regularly study these lessons for their own team development.
Selecting Mendoza as the franchise quarterback is an important first step. The additional talent and depth from the draft, including the Arizona Wildcats safety tandem and later picks like Malik Benson and Brandon Cleveland, give the Raiders a stronger foundation. With this vision, Spytek, Kubiak, and minority owner Tom Brady have an opportunity to build lasting success.
