Aces vs Dream preview

On Friday, The Las Vegas Aces will continue their road trip with a matchup against the Atlanta Dream. The game will be televised on ION starting at 4:30 pm.

The Las Vegas Aces (4-1) are sitting at number one in the Western Conference after knocking off the Lynx, while the Atlanta Dream (3-2) are coming off  a win against the Washington Mystics. Last time these teams met during the 2023 season it was a game to remember with A’ja Wilson dropping a career high 53 points on 16-23 shooting from the field. The Dream will look a little different this time around with the offseason signings of Tina Charles and Aerial Powers, as well as Jordin Canada who will not play in this game due to a right hand injury.

Dream Players to Watch

A big thing to watch heading into this game will be Allisha Gray’s availability for the Dream as she is listed as questionable for the matchup with the Aces. Gray is a great two way player for the Dream and is currently averaging 16 points per game while being a pest on defense taking on the other team’s best player.

Rhyne Howard is another player to watch on this Dream team averaging 19 points per game, 6 rebounds and 3.6 assist per game. Howard is a three level scorer that can get hot in a hurry in the last meeting between these two teams she put up 27 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assist.

Tina Charles who was one of the big offseason additions is a great scorer but more importantly a great rebounder averaging 9.4 rebounds per game for the Dream. Charles who did not play last season last faced the Aces in 2022 playoffs where she was a problem on the boards averaging 10 rebounds per game in the series.

Aces Players to Watch

With Chelsea Gray listed out for another game Jackie Young is going to continue to run the point guard position which she has transitioned into this season. Young has thrived in her new role, setting a career high in assists earlier this year with 11 against Los Angeles, and her ability to get downhill and finish near the basket, along with her three-point shooting, has made her a difficult assignment for opposing teams.

As mentioned earlier A’ja Wilson had her career high the last time these two teams met and this season she is off to a hot start and breaking records. Wilson has scored twenty or more points and grabbed ten or more rebounds in five straight games so it will be interesting to see if she can keep the streak going.

Kate Martin is another player to watch for this Aces team who has been a great spark off the bench this season for this Aces team who needed some more depth. Martin who was one of the steals from the past WNBA draft has given the Aces a reliable 3-and-d player off their bench that makes very few mistakes which as a rookie is impressive.

The Aces have won five straight games against Atlanta and 10 of the last 11 meetings looking to make it six straight on Friday.
