The wait is almost over. Conor McGregor and Max Holloway stood face-to-face one final time Friday night during the UFC 329 ceremonial weigh-ins, setting the stage for one of the most anticipated rematches in UFC history.
The former champions will headline UFC 329 on Saturday night at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas in a welterweight showdown that marks McGregor’s long-awaited return to the Octagon after a five-year absence.
With thousands of fans filling the ceremonial weigh-ins, McGregor and Holloway met in the center of the stage for their final pre-fight faceoff.
Neither fighter backed down. The intensity between the two former champions was evident as they locked eyes, signaling that the respect built over the years will be set aside once the cage door closes. Saturday’s matchup serves as a rematch more than a decade in the making.
A Rivalry Renewed
McGregor and Holloway first met in August 2013 at UFC Fight Night 26. On that night, McGregor earned a unanimous decision victory despite suffering a torn ACL during the bout. Both fighters would eventually become UFC champions and two of the biggest stars the promotion has ever produced. Now, 13 years later, they meet again under far different circumstances.
For McGregor (22-6 MMA, 10-4 UFC), UFC 329 represents his first appearance since breaking his leg in the trilogy bout against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in July 2021.
After years away from competition, injuries, legal issues, and speculation surrounding his future, “The Notorious” finally returns looking to prove he remains one of the sport’s elite competitors. The bout also marks exactly five years since his last appearance inside the Octagon.
Holloway Looking for Revenge
Max Holloway (27-9 MMA, 23-9 UFC) enters the rematch with plenty of momentum. Since losing to McGregor early in his UFC career, Holloway has gone on to become one of the greatest featherweights in MMA history while building a resume that includes championship victories and unforgettable performances.
Now competing at welterweight, Holloway has an opportunity to erase the lone meeting between the two and spoil McGregor’s highly anticipated comeback.
The Main Event Is Finally Here
Months of promotion, years of anticipation, and over a decade of history all come to a head Saturday night in Las Vegas. For McGregor, it’s a chance to remind the MMA world why he became one of the biggest stars in combat sports history.
For Holloway, it’s an opportunity to rewrite history against the man who handed him one of the earliest losses of his UFC career. After one final staredown, all that’s left is the fight.
