Ducks Clamp Down Defensively, Even Series With Game 2 Win Over Golden Knights

LAS VEGAS — The Anaheim Ducks flipped the script. After being known all season for defensive struggles, Anaheim delivered one of its most disciplined performances of the year, defeating the Vegas Golden Knights 3-1 in Game 2 to even their Western Conference second-round series at 1-1. This wasn’t the Ducks team fans saw during the regular season.

Anaheim, which ranked near the bottom of the league in goals against, turned in a gritty, playoff-style effort blocking shots, collapsing around the crease, and frustrating Vegas’ high-powered attack. “This is the only way you’re going to be successful in playoffs,” said head coach Joel Quenneville. “You’ve got to win games like tonight.”

At the center of it all was Lukas Dostal, who stopped 22 of 23 shots and anchored Anaheim’s defensive stand especially during a chaotic third period. “We know we have an amazing goalkeeper in the back,” said Leo Carlsson. Dostal even joked about his style during the late-game scramble: “I felt like a soccer goalie out there.”

Ducks Capitalize on Opportunities

While defense set the tone, Anaheim made the most of its chances offensively.

  • Beckett Sennecke opened the scoring in the second period after being left alone in front
  • Carlsson added a third-period goal off a slick feed from Troy Terry
  • Jansen Harkins sealed it with an empty-netter

Vegas finally broke through with six seconds left via Mark Stone, ending Dostal’s shutout bid.

The final minutes were chaotic. Vegas pressed hard, generating multiple high-danger chances, but Anaheim’s defense and some luck held firm. “We were diving all over the place… lucky it didn’t go in,” Quenneville admitted.

Despite the loss, Vegas isn’t panicking. Head coach John Tortorella emphasized execution over concern. “We’ve got to be quicker to pucks… we’ll find our way.”

Series Shifts to Anaheim

With the series tied 1-1, momentum now swings to Southern California. Game 3 is set for Friday night in Anaheim where the Ducks will look to build on their defensive breakthrough, and the Golden Knights will aim to regain control.

The Anaheim Ducks didn’t just win Game 2. They showed they can win playoff-style hockey. And that changes everything.
