LAS VEGAS — The long-rumored rematch between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao has taken another major hit. The highly anticipated fight, previously linked to a September 19 date at Sphere, will no longer take place there casting serious doubt over whether the event will happen at all.

The Sphere confirmed it will not host the fight on Sept. 19, instead booking Eagles concerts for that weekend. With one of the sport’s biggest potential events losing its marquee venue, questions are now swirling about the fight’s viability.

Silence From All Sides

Further uncertainty has emerged due to a lack of communication from key parties involved. According to ESPN’s Andreas Hale, efforts to get clarity have gone unanswered. “Everyone involved in Mayweather-Pacquiao 2 has gone radio silent,” Hale reported.

Despite early promotion from Netflix, the fight has yet to appear on the platform’s official schedule, and social media promotion has gone quiet since February.

Exhibition Confusion

One of the biggest turning points came when Mayweather publicly referred to the bout as an exhibition contradicting earlier expectations of a legitimate professional rematch.

That shift appears to have complicated negotiations and dampened momentum. Mayweather had also teased a busy 2026 schedule, including:

  • An exhibition with Mike Tyson (April 25 — never materialized)
  • A planned bout with Mike Zambidis

Neither event has provided clarity on his immediate future adding to the uncertainty surrounding Pacquiao 2.

Pacquiao Still Interested

While confusion surrounds Mayweather’s side, Pacquiao is reportedly still committed to making the fight happen. The rematch more than a decade after their record-breaking first bout remains one of the most commercially viable events in boxing, even in an exhibition format.

What was once shaping up as a blockbuster Netflix event in one of Las Vegas’ most iconic new venues is now clouded in uncertainty.

Between:

  • The loss of the Sphere date
  • Conflicting messaging about the fight’s status
  • Silence from promoters and broadcasters

The fight’s future is anything but clear. Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao 2 isn’t officially dead. But it’s no longer guaranteed. And until clarity emerges, one of boxing’s most anticipated rematches remains stuck in limbo.
