The long-awaited showdown between Devin Haney and Keyshawn Davis is officially moving forward. Top Rank secured promotional rights for the WBO welterweight championship bout on Thursday, submitting a winning bid of $8.55 million during the purse bid held at WBO headquarters in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
The winning offer easily surpassed the $2.35 million bid submitted by Teofimo Lopez’s Takeover Promotions, ensuring that Top Rank will promote one of the most anticipated welterweight fights of the year.
The purse bid was initially scheduled for Monday but was postponed after both camps requested additional time to negotiate a deal. Those discussions ultimately failed to produce an agreement, forcing the fight to purse bid.
Under WBO regulations for mandatory title fights. Champion Haney will receive 75 percent of the winning bid, while mandatory challenger Davis will earn the remaining 25 percent.
Based on the winning bid, Haney is set to receive approximately $6.41 million, while Davis will take home roughly $2.14 million before any additional contractual earnings.
October Date Targeted
Top Rank has proposed October 3 as the date for the championship clash.
Three venues are currently under consideration:
- Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York
- State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia
- Michelob ULTRA Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada
An official announcement regarding the host city is expected in the coming weeks.
Haney Begins First Welterweight Title Defense
Haney (33-0, 15 KOs) enters the bout as The Ring’s No. 1-ranked welterweight after capturing the WBO title with a dominant unanimous decision over Brian Norman in Saudi Arabia last November.
The victory made Haney a three-division world champion while further strengthening his standing among boxing’s elite. The former undisputed lightweight champion is also ranked No. 8 on The Ring’s pound-for-pound list.
Haney recently agreed to a reported multi-fight promotional agreement with DAZN, and the fight against Davis is expected to stream on DAZN’s Ultimate subscription package while also being available via pay-per-view.
Davis (15-0, 10 KOs) will make his welterweight debut after climbing through multiple weight classes during his young career. The 2021 Olympic silver medalist captured the WBO lightweight championship in February 2025 with a fourth-round stoppage of Denys Berinchyk.
However, his title reign ended outside the ring after missing weight by more than four pounds ahead of a scheduled defense against Edwin De Los Santos, forcing the cancellation of the bout.
Rather than attempting another cut to lightweight, Davis moved up to junior welterweight. Where he stopped Jamaine Ortiz in the 12th round before avenging an earlier controversial result with a unanimous decision victory over Nahir Albright in May.
Shortly after defeating Albright. Davis announced his move to 147 pounds and was later installed as Haney’s mandatory challenger by the WBO.
