The Vegas Knight Hawks keep stacking wins after the opening-night stumble. Vegas handled the San Antonio Gunslingers 62-36 on Saturday at Freeman Coliseum, moving to 3-1 with its third win of the season.
Quentin Randolph went off for eight catches, 95 yards and three touchdowns, while Jayden DeLaura stayed in control all night. DeLaura finished 13 of 15 for 165 yards with two passing touchdowns and added two rushing scores as Vegas scored in every quarter.
A quarterback curveball, then the usual problem
Vegas opened the scoring with a wrinkle that looked like it came straight from a practice script. Cedric Wilcots II threw a 21-yard touchdown pass to Randolph, giving the Knight Hawks the early lead and setting the tone for a night where Vegas kept finding new ways to create space.
San Antonio had moments, but it never had momentum for long. Every time the Gunslingers landed a punch, Vegas answered with points and kept the game tilted.
Randolph went full arcade mode
Randolph was the centerpiece and the finisher, scoring three times and moving the chains whenever Vegas needed something clean. Phoenix Sproles added four catches for 51 yards and a touchdown and also scored on a 5-yard rushing touchdown, giving Vegas another way to break the game open.
Josh Tomas helped keep the offense humming with four catches for 47 yards, then added a 2-yard rushing touchdown late. Vegas piled up 258 total yards and turned drives into touchdowns instead of field-goal debates.
DeLaura turned the red zone into a formality
DeLaura’s numbers were loud without being messy, which is the best kind of quarterback night. He threw two touchdowns without an interception, and when San Antonio tightened up near the goal line, he beat it with his legs for two rushing scores.
That combination kept Vegas ahead of the game script. The Knight Hawks went 5 of 7 on third down and 2 of 2 on fourth down, which is another way of saying San Antonio rarely got off the field when it mattered.
Defense set the edge and took the ball
Linebacker Ian McBorrough led the Knight Hawks with 11 tackles as Vegas kept San Antonio from living in the run game. The pass rush also got home, with Vegas finishing with three sacks for 19 yards.
Clifton Duck delivered the splash play, snagging an interception and returning it 13 yards while also recording a sack. Vegas did not need a perfect defensive night because the offense kept scoring, but the stops and disruptions made sure the Gunslingers never got close enough to make it uncomfortable.
What it means
At 3-1, the defending champs have steadied the season quickly after dropping the opener. Saturday’s win looked like Vegas at its best: multiple playmakers scoring, the quarterback playing efficient and the defense adding just enough havoc to keep the opponent chasing.
Up next
Vegas heads home next for its first home game stretch of the season, with the New Mexico Chupacabras visiting Saturday, April 25 at Lee’s Family Forum. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. PT.
