The super middleweight division may be crowded with contenders but Caleb Plant has his sights set on one name in particular. Hamzah Sheeraz.
“I think that’s a big fight,” Plant said. “I’d definitely fight him.” Sheeraz isn’t an easy callout. Tall, powerful, and rangy, the undefeated contender (22-0-1, 18 KOs) has quickly become one of the most intriguing threats at 168 pounds. His recent statement win a stoppage of Edgar Berlanga put the division on notice and elevated his profile heading into a looming title opportunity.
Before any potential showdown with Plant can materialize, Sheeraz has business to handle. He’s been ordered to face Alem Begic for the vacant WBO super middleweight title.
Currently:
- Sheeraz is ranked No. 2 by the WBO
- Begic sits at No. 4
- Canelo Alvarez holds the No. 1 position
A title win would change everything for Sheeraz including the level of opponents lining up to face him.
Plant in Need of a Statement Fight
For Plant (23-3, 14 KOs), the callout comes at a critical time.
Despite being ranked No. 7 by The Ring, his recent form has been inconsistent:
- Just 2-3 since 2021
- Lost WBA interim title
- Split-decision loss to Jose Resendiz in his last outing
That defeat, where he was outworked and outpaced, raised questions about where he stands in the division. Even with recent setbacks, Caleb Plant believes he has the tools to beat Sheeraz. “I think he’s a good fighter… but I’ve seen some things in his game that I can capitalize off of,” Plant said. It’s a confident stance and one that suggests he sees stylistic openings despite Sheeraz’s physical advantages.
A Fight That Makes Sense
If Sheeraz secures the WBO title, a clash with Plant becomes even bigger:
Why it works:
- Name recognition vs rising star
- Experience vs size and momentum
- High-stakes matchup at 168
For Plant: A chance to re-enter the elite conversation
For Sheeraz: A proving ground against a former world champion Caleb Plant isn’t backing down from a dangerous opponent. Hamzah Sheeraz is rising fast and Plant wants to meet him head-on. But first, Sheeraz has a title to chase. If he wins it…This potential showdown could become one of the biggest fights at super middleweight.
