An arrest warrant has been issued for WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis in connection with an alleged domestic violence incident that reportedly occurred in October, according to Miami Gardens police.

Authorities confirmed Wednesday that the warrant includes charges of false imprisonment, battery, and attempted kidnapping. The Miami Gardens Police Department (MGPD) said it is actively working with the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force to locate and apprehend Davis.

“At this time, the Miami Gardens Police Department is actively working with the United States Marshal’s fugitive task force to locate and apprehend Mr. Davis,” MGPD executive officer Emmanuel Jeanty said during a news conference. “Domestic violence is a serious crime, and the Miami Gardens Police Department remains committed to holding offenders accountable and protecting victims.”

Details of the Alleged Incident

Police say the incident took place on October 27 at a gentlemen’s club in Miami Gardens. Where the alleged victim worked. Days later, Davis’ ex-girlfriend, Courtney Rossel, filed a civil lawsuit outlining the alleged encounter.

According to the lawsuit obtained by ESPN. Davis is accused of entering the club and attacking Rossel in a back room without surveillance cameras. The complaint alleges Davis grabbed her by the back of the head and throat, dragged her through a stairwell, kitchen, and rear exit, and then physically assaulted her in the parking garage before releasing her to co-workers. Rossel reportedly suffered bruising on her left arm. MGPD stated that surveillance footage from the venue was reviewed and corroborates the woman’s account.

“The investigation determined that Mr. Davis used force to restrain in an attempt to remove the victim from the location against her will,” Jeanty said.

Police added that Rossel and Davis had known each other since 2022 and were in an intimate relationship for approximately five months. The relationship ended about a month prior to the incident, and Rossel had blocked all communication with Davis, according to authorities.

Legal Proceedings and Fallout

Rossel’s attorney, Jeff Chukwuma, said the police findings align with the civil complaint.

“What the police said is exactly in line with our lawsuit,” Chukwuma told ESPN. “They determined it was enough to get a judge to sign off on an arrest warrant.”

The lawsuit was filed roughly two weeks before Davis was scheduled to fight Jake Paul at Kaseya Center. Davis was later removed from that bout; Paul ultimately faced Anthony Joshua in December.

Prior Legal History

Davis’ legal issues are well documented. While several past cases were dropped. He was sentenced in 2023 to 90 days of house arrest and three years of probation following a hit-and-run case in Baltimore.

At this time, it remains unclear whether the current allegations could constitute a violation of that probation.
