UNLV Frisco Bowl: Rebels set for Dec. 23 matchup with Ohio

UNLV earned its third straight bowl berth and a Dec. 23 matchup with Ohio in the Scooter’s Coffee Frisco Bowl. Head coach Dan Mullen said the trip reflects the growth of a roster built last January and a program shaped by the momentum of Las Vegas sports.

UNLV Frisco Bowl matchup adds another milestone to the program’s rebuild

UNLV secured its third consecutive bowl berth Sunday, the first such streak in program history. The Rebels will face Ohio on Dec. 23 in the Scooter’s Coffee Frisco Bowl. It marks another milestone in a three-year stretch that has shifted expectations and reshaped how the program fits within the city’s sports landscape.

Mullen stresses team growth and a roster that came together in January

Head coach Dan Mullen said the bowl berth is meaningful not just for the result but for what it represents. The roster was assembled only last January, and he believes the experience matters for a young group still forming its identity.

“There are guys that have never been to Texas,” Mullen said. He noted that traveling and preparing for one more game gives the team another chance to grow together.

Mullen also joked that he’ll keep parts of the game plan quiet at home because his wife is an Ohio alum. Still, he emphasized that the trip is another important step for a roster built less than a year ago.

A growing Las Vegas sports culture continues to influence UNLV

Mullen connected UNLV’s progress to the momentum running through Las Vegas. He pointed to the success of the Knights, Aces and other UNLV programs as part of that rising tide.

“It’s like a snowball effect,” he said. “Our success builds excitement in the city, and excitement in the city builds our success.”

UNLV has won 30 games in the past three seasons, a metric Mullen referenced as a sign of steady growth.

Focus shifts to detail as the Rebels prepare for Ohio

Friday’s loss to Boise State offered lessons the Rebels plan to carry into the bowl game. Mullen said high-level opponents make every mistake matter.

“When you play really good teams, mistakes get compounded,” he said.

For UNLV, the next two weeks provide a chance to reset, finish with clarity and carry their progress into the offseason.
