The Las Vegas Raiders got their first win of the season on Sunday against the New England Patriots, but it did not come without a fright.
In the third quarter, tight end Brock Bowers appeared to tweak something in his knee. While Bowers was seen walking gingerly and working on the sideline with the medical staff, he did not return to the game. Analysts feared that the non-contact nature of the injury meant something serious had happened, putting the Raiders in a bad position if Bowers had to miss an extended period of time.
Fortunately, Bowers and head coach Pete Carroll are making it sound as though the injury looked worse than it actually is.
Bowers was given the best-case scenario for his injury.
Both Bowers and Carroll have gone on record to say that he is fine after the injury, although he has been given the day-to-day designation.
“Really, we’re just going day-to-day,” Carroll said during his press conference on Monday. “Those guys are tough guys, now. They’re not going to take the easy way out on this one, they’re all going to push to get right.”
Fortunately, Bowers has a bit of extra time this week to get right.
With the Raiders’ home opener taking place on Monday against the Los Angeles Chargers, Bowers gets an extra day to see how he feels. He will likely appear on the injury report with limited practices, but it does not sound as though either he or Carroll are projecting him to be out for the game.
“This will really help us and give us a chance,” Carroll noted about the long practice.
Raiders fans can breathe a sigh of relief that Bowers avoided a serious injury, and can now focus on watching him push to help his team get the season off to a 2-0 start.
