Sometimes, the predictable move is the one that ultimately ends up happening.

Ever since Pete Carroll was hired as head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders, speculation has run rampant on who will fill out his roster and coaching staff.

The Raiders got some answers on Wednesday, when defensive coordinator Patrick Graham and special teams coordinator Tom McMahon were confirmed to be returning for the 2025 season.

Graham and McMahon offer much-needed continuity for the Raiders, serving as a vital link between Carroll and the current development of the roster.

On offense, however, it is looking as though Carroll will defer to an old friend.

According to the Athletic’s Vic Tafur, all signs are indicating that the Raiders will hire Miami Dolphins quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator Darrell Bevell as offensive coordinator.

Tafur also mentioned, however, that other candidates are still in the mix, so this decision is not final.

Widely considered the favorite for the job since Carroll’s hiring, Bevell interviewed for the position on Tuesday. Tennessee Titans head coach and former Raiders interim offensive coordinator Bo Hardegree and former Stanford head coach David Shaw have also been linked to the position.

Carroll and Bevell go a long way back together, with the latter serving as offensive coordinator of the Seattle Seahawks under the former from 2011-17. Bevell built one of the more dynamic rushing offenses in the league, helping in taking the Seahawks to two Super Bowls.

Bevell has also served as offensive coordinator for the Minnesota Vikings (2006-10), Detroit Lions (2019-20) and Jacksonville Jaguars (2021). He also served as interim head coach of the Lions and Jaguars.

Adding Bevell back with Carroll opens the possibility of the Raiders reuniting the two with free agent quarterback Russell Wilson and officially bringing the band back together. While Wilson is far removed from his prime, he possesses familiarity with Bevell’s scheme and would serve as an excellent veteran mentor to a younger quarterback.

The Raiders will need time to make their final decision, but Bevell is currently the favorite.
