Three takeaways from the Golden Knights 6-3 loss to Oilers

The Vegas Golden Knights saw their four-game win streak come to an end with a 6-3 loss to the Edmonton Oilers at Rogers Place on Saturday.

Forwards Ivan Barbashev, Brett Howden and Victor Olofsson all scored, while Adin Hill made 28 saves for Vegas (19-8-3).

“It seemed like every opportunity they got found its way to the net. So we had to do a better job either defending or getting the stop,” Vegas coach Bruce Cassidy said. “We got some goals; we just didn’t keep it out of our net well enough in the second period.

“[We] tried to play the right way and stay on our game, not turn five into 10, especially with [the Oilers]. They could do that in a hurry.”

Second Period Gets Away from Golden Knights

The Oilers scored four goals in the second period to go up 5-0.

There wasn’t much of a game after that. The Golden Knights got within two but couldn’t keep the offensive production long enough to mount a real comeback attempt.

“In the second period, we kind of got away from [creating offense] a little bit, and we kind of gave them a lot of their chances and fed their offense, which is something you can’t do against a team with that amount of skill,“ Vegas defenseman Noah Hanifin said.

Olofsson, Barbashev Stays Hot

Barbashev and Olofsson scored again after scoring against Winnipeg.

Olofsson has four points (two goals and two assists) in the last four games and is coming around to finding his role alongside Tomas Hertl and Alexander Holtz.

Meanwhile, Barbashev has 15 goals in 30 games. He’s on pace for 41 goals this season, which would shatter his career-high of 26 goals. It remains a worry that Barbashev will slow down in the goal scoring, but until that time comes, the Golden Knights will always welcome his offense.

Up Next

The Golden Knights don’t have a lot of time to let this one linger. The team traveled to Minnesota to finish this road trip with a game against the Minnesota Wild.

The puck drop is scheduled for 3 p.m.
