15th ranked, Neil Magny squares off with unranked, Carlos Prates
Veteran fighter Neil Magny gears up to square off with young, unranked talent, Carlos Prates.
Prates Advantages
Prates has an advantage of being six years younger than Magny and a better record, winning all of his fights this year by KO/TKO. In his last match on August 17th against Li Jingling, Prates won the fight in 4:02 on a referee stoppage. In Prates’ defense, his fighting style is that of a striker. That could play up to his advantage. Prates seems to live up to his nickname, “The Nightmare”.
Magny’s Keys to Victory
Magny has a reach advantage by two inches over Prates. Although Neil Magny lost his last fight on August 24th against Michael Morales in the first round by TKO, he still feels that he has the ability to compete at a high level. He also feels that consistency is important for his success in his next fight. In a recent interview with MMA Junkie, Magny was asked what his keys to being victorious were. In response, he mentioned being “present and executing to get the job done.”

In totality, the odds seem to be dubbing Magny the underdog by +570. If Magny is defeated, he will lose his spot in the top 15 rankings. It will be interesting to see if Magny can turn his strengths into a positive in this upcoming fight or will Prates be able to pull off a win to enter into the rankings.
To watch this fight, it will be available on ESPN+ at 7pm ET/4pm PT and at the UFC Apex Saturday, November 9th.
