Fans Will Have To Wait To See Jon Jones Fight The Champion

Jon Jones (27-1 MMA) makes his return in the octagon against the greatest heavyweight of all time in Stipe Miocic (20-4 MMA) . The fight was originally scheduled for November 11th at UFC 295 at Madison Square Garden in New York, NY. The fight got delayed due to Jones suffering a torn pectoral muscle which required surgery. The injury sidelined him for 8 months. Jones followed up with elbow surgery shortly to clean up bone spurts. Finally on Saturday, almost a year later the highly anticipated fight will be happening in the same venue for UFC 309.

Miocic is widely considered the greatest to ever do it at heavyweight. But the last time we saw the former 2-time champion was him getting absolutely destroyed by Francis Ngannou via 2nd round knockout. That was 3 years ago! That’s a very long time for a fighter to be inactive. Fight fans are hoping that the aging heavyweight can turn back the hands of time and deliver a inspired performance against who is considered the greatest MMA fighter of all time in Jon Jones. According to BETMGM Miocic is the underdog at +435. Most fans are already looking ahead to Jones next defense. It’s very clear on who MMA fans wants to Jones in the octagon.

The most feared champion in MMA?

Light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira has become a dominate force in the UFC. His opponents just don’t go the distance with him. He has a killer instinct of finishing his opponents which makes him a fan favorite. UFC fans have spoken and they want to see a dream match up between Jones vs Pereira. Both Jones and Pereira are open to. The dream fight would rank amongst one of the most anticipated fights in UFC history. But a Jones victory against Miocic will not guarantee this outcome. In fact, UFC CEO  Dana White was a guest on the Jim Rome Show and shared what his plans are for Jones moving forward.

Tom Aspinall will get the call

“Jon will do what he does on Saturday,” White said. “If he wins, he’ll disappear for a while and the competitive spirit will start bubbling up again, and then money will talk. If he doesn’t decide to retire, he absolutely, positively fights Aspinall. He’s not fighting Pereira.”

Tom Aspinall has held the interim UFC heavyweight championship in Jones absence and is without a doubt the biggest challenger in the division for Jones belt. Fight fans are excited about that fight as well. Aspinall could very well be the most dangerous opponent left for Jones to fight before he walks into the sunset at the greatest MMA fighter of all time. First things first though, Jones has to take care of business first. Should that happen, then 2025 could be a epic year for fight fans with possible super fights of Jones vs. Aspinall and Jones vs. Pereira.
