Amanda Serrano Makes Cheyenne Hanson Pay for Disrespect, Scores Historic Knockout Victory

Amanda Serrano has spent her entire career demanding respect not just for herself, but for women’s boxing as a whole. On Saturday night in front of a sold-out crowd at the El Paso Civic Center in Texas, the seven-division world champion made sure Cheyenne Hanson learned that lesson the hard way.

Serrano stopped the German challenger at 2:25 of the second round to successfully defend her WBA and WBO featherweight titles, earning the 32nd knockout victory of her legendary career and tying women’s boxing pioneer Christy Martin for the most knockouts in the sport’s history.

The tension between the two fighters began before the opening bell. During the pre-fight faceoff, Hanson blew a bubble gum bubble in Serrano’s face, an act the Puerto Rican superstar viewed as disrespectful.

Amanda Serrano admitted afterward that the moment provided extra motivation heading into the fight. “Since Cheyenne blew that bubble in my face, I knew something good would happen,” Serrano said after the victory. That prediction proved accurate.

Serrano Breaks Down Hanson

Competing under rules that featured three-minute rounds, Serrano immediately showcased the experience and skill that have made her one of the most accomplished female fighters of all time.

The southpaw spent much of the opening round studying Hanson, using her jab to control distance while gathering information on her opponent’s tendencies.

“In the first, I was trying to figure her out,” Serrano said. “In the corner, I said, ‘I got her.’” Once Serrano made her adjustments, the fight quickly became one-sided.

Relentless Attack Ends the Fight

Dressed in classic gray “Rocky” inspired trunks, Serrano turned up the pressure in the second round. She used sharp jabs to create openings before unleashing a relentless assault of hooks, uppercuts, and straight punches that forced Hanson backward toward the ropes.

With Hanson trapped in the corner, Serrano unloaded a nonstop barrage of punches to the head and body, leaving referee Robert Hoyle with little choice but to step in and stop the contest.

The victory not only preserved Serrano’s championship reign but also added another historic accomplishment to an already Hall of Fame-worthy resume.

Tying a Women’s Boxing Legend

With the stoppage victory, Serrano recorded the 32nd knockout of her career, tying Christy Martin for the most knockouts in women’s boxing history. The achievement further cements Serrano’s place among the greatest female fighters ever while adding another milestone to a career that has already seen her win world titles in seven different weight classes.

The knockout was so significant that one member of Serrano’s team commemorated the moment permanently, revealing a tattoo featuring a cayenne pepper and the number 32 in honor of the historic accomplishment.

Serrano Defends Jake Paul

Following the fight, the El Paso crowd directed boos toward promoter Jake Paul. Serrano, however, quickly came to his defense. The champion praised Paul for his commitment to women’s boxing and for helping provide opportunities and exposure for female fighters that previously didn’t exist on this scale.

It was another example of Serrano using her platform to advocate for the growth and recognition of women’s boxing, something she has consistently done throughout her decorated career.

Desley Robinson Retains Unified Titles

Earlier in the evening, Australia’s Desley Robinson successfully defended her IBF and WBO middleweight championships with a dominant victory over former 154-pound champion Mary Spencer.

Robinson controlled the action from start to finish, consistently outworking and outlanding Spencer en route to a unanimous decision victory. The judges scored the bout 100-90, 100-90, and 99-91.

The win further strengthens Robinson’s position as one of the top middleweights in women’s boxing.

Respect Earned

For Amanda Serrano, Saturday’s victory was about more than another title defense. It was about sending a message. After more than a decade of championship success, record-setting achievements, and historic performances, Serrano continues to prove why she remains one of the most respected names in combat sports. If anyone forgets, she’s more than willing to remind them inside the ring.
