SEATTLE — Alexa Grasso is back and in devastating fashion. The former UFC women’s flyweight champion delivered one of the most brutal finishes of the year, knocking out Maycee Barber in the co-main event of UFC Fight Night 271 at Climate Pledge Arena.
The fight appeared competitive early, with Barber showing confidence in the striking exchanges. Then, in an instant, everything changed. Grasso unleashed a perfectly timed left hand that landed flush on Barber’s jaw, spinning her to the canvas.
Moments later:
- Grasso jumped on a rear-naked choke
- But Barber was already unconscious from the punch
The official stoppage came at 2:42, sealing a highlight-reel victory.
Sportsmanship in the Aftermath
As Barber lay motionless on the canvas, Grasso immediately shifted from finisher to professional. She knelt beside her opponent, showing concern and respect a moment that stood out just as much as the knockout itself.
The win marks a critical bounce-back moment for Grasso (17-5-1 MMA, 9-5-1 UFC). After going three fights without a victory, the former champion needed a statement. She got it. And she did it against a familiar opponent.
This was a rematch of their 2021 meeting a fight Grasso also won by decision. This time, there was no doubt. Two fights. Two wins.
But this one was emphatic.
Barber’s Streak Ends
For Barber (15-3 MMA, 10-3 UFC), the loss snaps a seven-fight winning streak. She entered the fight with serious momentum and title aspirations.
Now:
- Her rise is halted
- Questions emerge about her ceiling at the top level
Instead of calling out a contender, Grasso used her moment to make a different request: Bring the UFC to Guadalajara, Mexico. It’s a move that reflects both: Her growing star power, plus the UFC’s continued expansion into global markets.
