UNLV vs Hawaii delivered another decisive result for the Rebels, who powered to a 38-10 win Friday night at Allegiant Stadium. Behind three touchdown passes from quarterback Anthony Colandrea and a defense that shut out Hawaii in the second half, UNLV extended its win streak to three games and kept hold of the Pineapple Trophy.
Colandrea sets the tone as Rebels build early control
UNLV moved with confidence from the opening series. After a field goal on the first drive, the Rebels answered Hawaii’s quick strike with an eight-play touchdown march capped by an 8-yard pass from Anthony Colandrea to Jaden Bradley. Moments later, Colandrea found Taeshaun Lyons for a 72-yard score that created early separation and swung momentum back to UNLV.
Before the game, head coach Dan Mullen said his team needed to dictate pace against Hawaii’s up-tempo style, explaining, “We got to make sure we’re able to try to control the tempo of that game for us.” The Rebels did exactly that by sustaining drives and keeping Hawaii’s offense off the field.
Defense tightens as UNLV pulls away
UNLV’s defense settled in after the first quarter and took over. The Rebels forced an interception, made consistent open-field tackles, and allowed only three points over the final three quarters. Their pressure repeatedly pushed Hawaii behind the chains and disrupted its timing.
Meanwhile, the offense kept finding answers. Keyvone Lee punched in a 14-yard touchdown run before halftime, and Colandrea opened the fourth quarter with a 1-yard scoring pass to Daejon Reynolds. JoJo Earle’s 27-yard touchdown run moments later sealed the 38–10 victory.
Next up: The Battle for the Fremont Cannon
UNLV now prepares for a rivalry trip to Reno for the 51st Battle for the Fremont Cannon. The Rebels enter the game at 9–2 with a three-game winning streak, while Nevada sits at 2–8 but has shown improvement. A win keeps UNLV in the Mountain West hunt heading into the season’s final weekend.
