Ankalaev Dismisses Pereira’s Accusations, Predicts Final Chapter in UFC 320 Rematch

Light heavyweight champion Magomed Ankalaev is brushing aside Alex Pereira’s claims of gamesmanship, insisting his focus is on closing the rivalry in definitive fashion when the two clash again at UFC 320 on Oct. 4 at T-Mobile Arena.

Earlier this week, Pereira (12-3 MMA, 9-2 UFC) accused Ankalaev (21-1-1 MMA, 12-1-1 UFC) of deliberately avoiding him at the UFC Performance Institute in Las Vegas. In a fiery social media post, “Poatan” alleged that Ankalaev was ducking any interaction during training, framing it as a sign of disrespect and insecurity less than two weeks out from their title bout.

Ankalaev finally responded Wednesday, dismissing the accusations as nothing more than pre-fight noise.

“He should stop talking and focus on fighting better than he did last time,” Ankalaev wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “He’s lucky to even be getting a second chance.”

A Second Shot for Pereira

The champion’s words highlight an important point: Ankalaev already holds a clear win over Pereira. Their first meeting came at UFC 313 in March, where Ankalaev earned a unanimous decision victory to extend his unbeaten streak in the UFC to 14 fights.

For Pereira, the rematch offers redemption after failing to impose his trademark power and timing in their initial encounter. His frustrations have been evident in recent weeks, as he’s repeatedly leaned into fiery callouts, perhaps in an attempt to rattle the stoic Russian champion.

Ankalaev’s Prediction

Despite the drama, Ankalaev insists the result at UFC 320 won’t be in question. In his latest post, the champion doubled down with a bold prediction:

“This fight will be the end of the story. I will finish Pereira and move on.”

That confidence mirrors Ankalaev’s measured approach since first breaking into the UFC, where he’s combined suffocating wrestling with increasingly sharp striking to remain unbeaten for nearly a decade.

What’s at Stake

For Ankalaev, a dominant win would cement his reign as the top man at 205 pounds, clearing out arguably the biggest name left to challenge him. For Pereira, however, this fight may determine whether he remains a title-level fixture at light heavyweight, or whether his future lies elsewhere in the UFC.

Either way, UFC 320 promises high stakes, simmering tension, and a rematch that could settle one of the division’s most high-profile rivalries once and for all.
