Olympic gold medalist Gable Steveson is wasting no time staying active in combat sports. Fresh off his MMA debut earlier this month, Steveson will headline Dirty Boxing Championship 4 on Oct. 30 at The Pinnacle in Nashville, taking on heavyweight veteran Billy Swanson.
Steveson, 25, stormed onto the MMA scene at LFA 217, where he needed just 98 seconds to finish Braden Peterson with a thunderous ground-and-pound assault after an effortless takedown. The performance showcased the elite wrestling pedigree that made him one of the most decorated amateurs in U.S. history, including a gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Now, Steveson will test his striking and clinch work under the custom ruleset of DBX a hybrid combat promotion co-owned by his coach and training partner, former UFC champion Jon Jones.
His opponent, 31-year-old Swanson, is no stranger to the fight game. With a 4-3 professional MMA record that includes appearances in Bellator and the PFL Challenger Series, he brings more experience in live combat than Steveson. Swanson most recently competed in bareknuckle boxing under BKFC, dropping a decision to Bear Hill in August.
Steveson’s Busy Transition
The Minnesota native’s quick turnaround reflects his stated desire to build momentum after leaving behind stints in WWE and the NFL’s Buffalo Bills before committing to MMA full time. With Jones in his corner, Steveson has been touted as a future UFC champion in the making, and his activity level appears to match that hype.
What’s Next
Dirty Boxing Championship 4 marks Steveson’s first combat sports main event, and it comes with considerable intrigue. Can the Olympic wrestler continue his dominance under hybrid rules. Or will Swanson’s veteran savvy and heavyweight power test him in ways MMA fans haven’t yet seen?
Either way, Nashville will host another pivotal step in the journey of one of combat sports’ most-watched prospects.
