MIAMI BEACH, Fla. (July 11) — WBA lightweight champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis was arrested Friday morning on a battery charge related to an alleged domestic incident involving his former partner.
According to authorities, the incident occurred on June 15, Father’s Day, just after 9 p.m., during a custody exchange. The woman told police that a verbal argument escalated into physical violence, alleging that Davis struck her in the back of the head and slapped her in the face, causing a visible laceration. Her mother told officers she arrived shortly after the incident and found her daughter “visibly distressed and crying.”
Davis, 30-0-1 (28 KOs), had been wanted by police since the incident. He was arrested after a license plate reader flagged his vehicle in Miami Beach. The arrest adds to a pattern of off-ring legal issues involving Davis, many of which have involved allegations of violence.
Prior Incidents Include:
-
2019: Charged with misdemeanor assault in Virginia following an altercation at an ATM and allegedly shoving a police officer. The case was later dismissed.
-
2020: Charged with simple battery domestic violence in Coral Gables, Florida, after being filmed grabbing the mother of his child by the neck at a public event.
The fight between Tank Davis and Lamont Roach Jr. is one of the more intriguing matchups of the summer. A chance for Davis to reaffirm his dominance, and for Roach to avenge a past draw and elevate his name further. But for now, everything could be on pause as Premier Boxing Champions has not officially announced the fight.
