It wasn’t the ideal ending in Seattle, but the Vegas Golden Knights salvaged a point in a 4-3 overtime loss to the Seattle Kraken at Climate Pledge Arena on Friday.
The loss marked the first time that Golden Knights (9-3-2) have lost in Climate Pledge Arena.
Pavel Dorofeyev scored his team-leading eighth goal of the season, while Nicolas Roy and Alex Pietrangelo also scored for Vegas.
“We wanted to get the two points,” Roy said. “Pretty good effort overall, but we put ourselves in bad situations many times today.”
Here are some takeaways from the game:
Hill Keeps Them In The Game
Adin Hill continues his strong play, making 28 saves. He made big-time saves in the third period after giving up the go-ahead goal.
Prior to the game, Hill was giving up less than three goals per game, and this loss can’t be hung on Hill.
“’Hillsy’ played a pretty good game. If it weren’t for him, it would have been a different score for sure,” Roy said. “I don’t think we get the point [without him.].”
Untimely Giveaways
Three of Seattle’s goals came from Vegas giveaways.
The first came when Brandon Tanev picked off Brayden McNabb’s pass attempt to Shea Theodore. The second came when Vegas failed to manage the puck on a previous possession, leading to an icing call that left the players out for a long shift. The third, and ultimately the game-winner, resulted when the puck came off Jack Eichel’s stick and ended up in the back of the net.
Untimely giveaways ended up costing the Golden Knights the game.
“We had some unforced errors in the back end,” Vegas coach Bruce Cassidy said. “Uncharacteristic of them. Just some of them through reads on the ice. Puck play. One face-off we won, then all of a sudden it’s in our net. Things like that that typically don’t happen. Even the last goal, we didn’t read the play well. At the end of the day, that was an area that hurt us.”
Golden Knights’ Resiliency Shows Again
For the second game in a row, the Golden Knights needed to rally from behind to salvage at least a point.
The Golden Knights scored their first 6-on-5 goal when Pietrangelo’s shot deflected off a skate into the back of the net to tie the game 3-3.
“That part is good,” Cassidy said. “We execute well in the third, chasing the game. Our guys had a good push. We did a lot of things well to try and get back in the game. Then we got the goal.”
Update On Stone
Stone missed the game with a lower-body injury. Cassidy didn’t offer much of an update about his captain.
“I don’t have much. He missed tonight,” Cassidy said. “He’ll see our doctors [in Vegas] We’ll get a much better read on that.”
