The Las Vegas Raiders host the unbeaten Kansas City Chiefs today at Allegiant Stadium in an AFC West battle.

Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs have been finding ways to win, even though their offense hasn’t been as explosive as anticipated. Now, with DeAndre Hopkins joining the squad after a recent trade, they are poised to face a struggling Las Vegas Raiders team.

The Chiefs started the season with a perfect 6-0 record, and their success can be largely attributed to their defensive efforts.

Kansas City’s defense ranks fourth in rushing the passer, and they’ll be targeting a Raiders offense that has surprisingly excelled in pass protection. Despite navigating another challenging season at quarterback, they’ve only allowed 20 sacks this season.

The Chiefs have also excelled in pass coverage, so if the Raiders manage to give Minshew some time in the pocket, it likely won’t be a major concern for them. Kansas City only allows an average of 215 passing yards per game to opposing quarterbacks.

With the addition of Hopkins, the Chiefs are expected to make strides on offense.

Historically, they haven’t lost back-to-back games to the Raiders since 2011-12, and their only defeat before their current 12-game win streak (including playoffs) was to the Raiders at home on Christmas Day in 2023.

Quarterback Garder Minshew lost his starting role to Aidan O’Connell but stepped back into the position when O’Connell suffered a hand injury last week.

Unfortunately, Minshew’s performance was disappointing, as he threw three interceptions and now leads the league with eight for the season—five of which have come in just the last two games.

While he has completed a fair number of passes, the team’s ability to advance the ball has been severely lacking.

Minshew has not thrown for 200 yards in three consecutive games; despite coming off the bench last week, he attempted an impressive 34 passes.

He holds a completion percentage of 65.5% but has recorded only four touchdowns against eight interceptions and three fumbles. Under pressure, his completion rate drops to 40.4%, accumulating just 263 yards (5.6 yards per attempt), with one touchdown and two interceptions.

Their primary offensive weapon is Bowers, while the remaining options include Jakobi Meyers, DJ Turner, and Tre Tucker. Bowers has been great this season, leading the team with 47 catches and 447 yards along with one touchdown.

On the ground, Alexander Mattison has been a primary contributor. Still, the Chiefs’ defense has been stout, allowing only two rushing touchdowns this season and limiting opposing running backs to just 56.17 yards at an average of 3.30 yards per carry.

Conversely, the Raiders are surrendering around 107 rushing yards per game (4.95 yards per carry) and have allowed three rushing touchdowns in the past two weeks.

The situation in Las Vegas is tumultuous, having already switched quarterbacks and traded their leading receiver, Davante Adams, and we’re not even halfway through the season—an indication of just how chaotic things have become for the Raiders.

Chiefs-Raiders Best Bet

Although this Raiders defense has talent, its pass rush has been subpar. Maxx Crosby is still recovering, and the team is currently sitting at the bottom in coverage rankings.

The Raiders lack the offensive firepower necessary to upset the Chiefs in this matchup. The Chiefs are 9 point favorites in this game and the moneyline odds are heavily tilted in their favor at -450 at BetMGM.

The total is worth targeting at 42.5 points as that is just a tad too high for my liking. This matchup feels like a 27-13 game.

The best bet in this one is going to be Under 42.5 points at -110 odds.
