On August 10, 2024, the Toronto Blue Jays are scheduled to play against the Oakland Athletics at Rogers Centre for the second game of their series.

Both teams have had a challenging season, with the Blue Jays’ record at 54-62 and the Athletics’ at 48-69.

Oakland Athletics

The Athletics’ offensive performance this season has been below average. They ranked 25th in runs scored, 28th in batting average, 26th in on-base percentage, and 18th in slugging in the majors.

Brent Rooker has been a standout performer, boasting a .291 batting average with 28 home runs and 81 RBIs, seven stolen bases, and 56 runs scored.

Shea Langeliers has also contributed significantly with a .207 batting average, 21 home runs, 57 RBIs, and 40 runs scored.

In the past week, Brent Rooker maintained a strong on-base percentage of .375 with two home runs, four RBIs, and three runs scored.

Zack Gelof hit .250 with a home run, two RBIs, two stolen bases, and three runs scored. JJ Bleday batted .273 with an RBI and three runs scored.

However, overall in the past week, the Athletics collectively hit just .209 with six home runs and 17 runs scored, but managed to steal four bases.

Toronto Blue Jays

The Blue Jays rank 24th in the majors in runs scored, 18th in batting average, 13th in on-base percentage, and 20th in slugging.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is leading the team, boasting a .321 batting average and a .394 on-base percentage this year, along with 23 home runs, 76 RBIs, and 68 runs scored.

Daulton Varsho has also performed well with a .205 batting average and a .289 on-base percentage, 13 home runs, 47 RBIs, 10 stolen bases, and 56 runs scored.

George Springer rounds out the top bats, hitting .223 this year with a .305 on-base percentage, 13 home runs, and 41 RBIs.

Alejandro Kirk has been solid in the last week, hitting .412 with a .476 on-base percentage, one home run, seven RBIs, and two runs scored.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. continues his hot streak, hitting .524 in the last week with a .615 on-base percentage, two home runs, six RBIs, and six runs scored.

Brian Serven rounds out the week’s top performers, hitting .429 with three RBIs and two runs scored in limited action. The Blue Jays collectively hit .262 in the last week, scoring three home runs and 29 runs.

Only one member of the Blue Jays has faced Bido in a career at-bat: Joey Loperfido, who is 0-1.

A’s-Blue Jays Best Bet

The Blue Jays have not only got the advantage of a slightly better pitcher in this game but also a better offense.

Their performance at the plate has been stronger over the last week and throughout the entire year.

Additionally, they are exceeding their expected run total while the Athletics are not.

My pick would be the Blue Jays to win this one on the moneyline.

Can the A’s defeat the Blue Jays in Toronto?
