The Houston Astros (52-47) will play the Oakland Athletics (39-62) in the series opener on Monday, July 22, at Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum.

Spencer Arrighetti will start for the Astros, while Hogan Harris will pitch for the Athletics. The game is scheduled to start at 9:40 PM ET.

The Athletics are the underdogs with a moneyline of +125, while the Astros are listed at -150. The total for the game has been set at 8.5, with -110 odds for the over and -110 odds for the under.

Houston Astros

The Houston Astros have caught up with the Seattle Mariners at the top of the American League West.

Although they didn’t achieve a weekend sweep of the Mariners in Seattle, winning two out of three games was a successful weekend for Houston.

Despite being hit hard by injuries to their starting rotation, the Astros have managed to bounce back from a poor start to their season.

They have survived with a makeshift rotation largely because their bats have come alive over the past month. Houston struggled offensively in April and May, but June saw a significant improvement in their hitting.

This offensive resurgence has allowed the pitching staff to remain stable and effective.

Houston has made it to the last seven American League Championship Series, contrasting with the Mariners’ infrequent playoff appearances and their failure to reach the World Series.

It’s reasonable to consider Houston the favorite to win the division and make another deep run in October.

A series against the struggling Oakland A’s will help Houston move closer to another division title. The Astros will fully expect to go into Oakland and secure another series victory.

Oakland Athletics

The Athletics ended their series against the Angels with an 8-5 loss. Despite being slight favorites, they fell behind early and couldn’t complete a comeback.

Joey Estes took the loss, while Miguel Andujar had a standout game at the plate.

With a 39-62 record, Oakland is 5th in the AL West, 14 games behind the Astros.

They have struggled both at home and on the road, especially as underdogs. Their recent form shows a 5-5 record in their last 10 games.

Today, they face the Houston Astros, and Hogan Harris is starting. Harris has a 1-3 record and a 3.40 ERA but has struggled recently.

The Athletics’ offense averages 4.1 runs per game and has been better at home.

Brent Rooker is a crucial player, hitting .294 with 22 home runs and 67 RBIs, while Shea Langeliers has 18 homers but a low batting average.

Astros-A’s Best Bet

The Astros are in pursuit of another AL West Division title as the season approaches the Trade Deadline. They have won two of their last three games and have dominated Oakland, winning six out of seven meetings with the A’s this season.

The Astros are hitting .260 against left-handed pitchers this season, with Alvarez leading the way, batting nearly .350 against lefties. Alvarez recently hit for the cycle, going 4-for-4 and breaking out of a 1-for-11 slump.

Astros starter Arrighetti has been impressive, allowing just three runs and striking out 13 batters over his last 11 innings in two starts.

Bet on the Astros with the money line.

Will the A’s sweep another series against the Angels?
