The Colorado Rockies (30-57) will host the Kansas City Royals (48-41) at Coors Field on Saturday.

The Royals are favored at -165, while the Rockies are opening at +140 for this matchup.

Kansas City Royals

The Kansas City Royals are deeply involved in the American League wild card race, but their strong position from a month ago has significantly weakened.

Although still in contention, they previously led the second tier of AL teams, behind the Baltimore Orioles, New York Yankees, and Cleveland Guardians.

The Royals’ recent struggles, particularly on the road, have led to a noticeable decline in their standing.

On May 25, the team boasted an impressive 34-19 record in their first 53 games, putting them on track to win over 100 games.

While sustaining such a pace was unlikely, their slump has been more pronounced than expected.

They have gone 14-23 in their last 37 games, standing at 48-42 through 90 contests, and have lost 13 of their last 17 road games—a sharp decline for a team that started the season strong.

Their struggles continued Friday night at Coors Field, where they managed just two runs in a loss to the Rockies.

Despite allowing only four runs in a hitter-friendly ballpark against a mediocre pitching staff, Kansas City couldn’t capitalize.

As the All-Star break approaches, the Royals find themselves in need of a reset. This break will provide much-needed rest to their young, talented players who are relatively inexperienced in a playoff race.

Colorado Rockies

The Colorado Rockies have secured two consecutive victories, scoring four runs in each game.

In the first of these wins, they tallied four runs on eight hits, with Michael Toglia hitting a solo home run and Brenton Doyle delivering a crucial two-run double in the eighth inning to break the tie.

Although the Rockies are tied for 17th in the Majors in runs scored, they boast the lowest team ERA in the league, allowing just three runs over their last two games.

Ryan McMahon, who leads the team in home runs and RBIs, has struggled over the last 11 games.

Ezequiel Tovar, the team leader in at-bats and second in home runs and RBIs, has been hitless in his last four games.

The Rockies have a 19-26 road record and will have Austin Gomber on the mound despite his recent rough outings.

With a power ranking of 30, the Rockies rank 18th in offense and last in defense.

They hold an overall record of 31-57 and recently dropped two out of three games to Kansas City.

Royals-Rockies Best Bet

The Colorado Rockies secured a victory in the series’ first game, extending their winning streak to two games.

In contrast, the Kansas City Royals have lost their last two games and have only managed one win in their last four outings.

Despite a strong start to the season, the Royals have struggled recently, though they still maintain a winning record and remain in contention for a playoff spot.

Meanwhile, the Rockies have the fewest wins in the entire MLB.

Pitcher Lugo has unexpectedly emerged as a strong candidate for the Cy Young award, allowing no runs in his last two starts and only four runs in his previous four starts.

Conversely, Gomber has given up 21 runs in his last four starts. Considering these factors, the Royals are favored to prevail in Game 2 of the series.

Betting on the Royals at -165 is the right move here.
