One of boxing’s most anticipated pound-for-pound showdowns is gaining serious momentum. According to Matchroom Boxing chairman Eddie Hearn, Netflix executives have already expressed interest in streaming a potential megafight between undisputed junior featherweight champion Naoya Inoue and multi-division champion Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez.

The fight, which would pit two of the sport’s elite pound-for-pound talents against one another, is being targeted for early 2027 and could become one of the biggest international boxing events in recent memory.

Netflix and Turki Alalshikh Interested

Speaking to The Ring while promoting Anthony Joshua’s upcoming heavyweight return against Kristian Prenga, Hearn revealed that discussions regarding the fight have already taken place.

“Turki Alalshikh, Netflix … we’ve spoken to them,” Hearn said. “They wanna see the fight. It’s the biggest fight for Inoue by a mile.”

Alalshikh, chairman of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority and owner of The Ring, has become one of boxing’s most influential power brokers and reportedly hopes to finalize a deal for Inoue and Rodriguez to meet in Japan.

The proposed fight would likely take place in January, with Japan viewed as the preferred location for the blockbuster event.

Pound-for-Pound Kings on a Collision Course

Few fights in boxing can match the significance of Inoue versus Rodriguez. Inoue currently sits atop The Ring’s pound-for-pound rankings as the No. 1 fighter in the world. Rodriguez enters the conversation as one of boxing’s fastest-rising stars and is ranked just three spots behind him.

Both fighters remain undefeated and have consistently dominated elite competition throughout their careers. For many boxing fans, the matchup represents the rare opportunity to see two pound-for-pound greats collide while both are still in their prime.

The Japanese superstar further solidified his standing as boxing’s best fighter with a dominant victory over fellow Japanese champion Junto Nakatani on May 2.

Competing before approximately 55,000 fans inside the Tokyo Dome. Inoue earned a unanimous decision victory to retain his Ring, IBF, WBA, WBC, and WBO junior featherweight championships.

The victory improved Inoue’s record to 33-0 with 27 knockouts and reinforced his reputation as one of the most complete fighters in the sport. Any showdown with Rodriguez would likely represent the biggest challenge of his championship reign.
