Gabriel Bonfim knees Randy Brown cold in Round 2, captures first UFC main event

Gabriel Bonfim

LAS VEGAS — Gabriel “Marretinha” Bonfim delivered a brutal statement in his first UFC headliner, stopping Randy Brown with a crushing knee at 1:20 of Round 2 in the UFC Fight Night 264 main event at the APEX.

Brown immediately protested referee Mark Smith’s intervention. But replays showed his gaze glassy and distant as he crashed to the canvas enough for the quick wave-off. Up to that moment the bout had been competitive, with both welterweights finding moments before Bonfim detonated the finish.

What the win means

  • Bonfim (19-1, 6-1 UFC) extends his streak to four straight, adding Brown to a run that includes Ange Loosa, Khaos Williams, and Stephen Thompson.

  • Brown (20-7, 14-7 UFC) has now dropped two of his last three, despite a veteran’s effort in his first promotional main event.

The finish

A poised Bonfim pressured, drew reactions, and timed a sharp knee that split the guard instantly scrambling Brown’s equilibrium and sealing the stoppage as both men tumbled, Bonfim rising as the victor.

In a showcase slot with real jeopardy, Bonfim produced a signature highlight. His momentum at 170 pounds just turned into heat.

Speaking through an interpreter after the win, Bonfim directed a blunt challenge at former contender Colby Covington:

“Colby, stop running. Give me a chance so I can walk you out of the ring. For sure, I’m going to retire you.”

Bonfim’s callout continues the theme of his post-fight momentum  a four-fight win streak and his first promotional main-event victory as he pushes for higher-profile matchups. The challenge doubles as both bravado and a bid to leapfrog into top-10 contention by forcing a marquee fight against an established name.
