Over 41 million viewers tuned in to Netflix on Saturday night to watch Terence “Bud” Crawford dethrone Canelo Álvarez for the undisputed super middleweight championship at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. The streaming service confirmed the figures on Monday, noting that the bout peaked at 24 million concurrent streams, with an average minute audience (AMA) of 36.6 million across live and same-day viewing, according to VideoAmp and Netflix.
While the fight didn’t surpass the staggering 108 million viewers who streamed Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson last November, it easily became the most-viewed men’s championship boxing match of the 21st century.
International Impact
The event was Netflix’s No. 1 program in 30 countries, including the United States, Mexico, Canada, Ireland, and Australia, and landed in the top 10 in 91 other markets. The streaming success confirmed boxing’s ability to captivate a truly global audience particularly with a matchup as historic as Crawford challenging and defeating the Mexican icon.
Record Gate at Allegiant Stadium
Crawford’s victory also set a new standard for live boxing events in Las Vegas’ newest sporting palace. The card generated a $47 million live gate, the largest in Allegiant Stadium’s history and the third-highest gate in boxing history. Only Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao ($72 million in 2015) and Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor ($55 million in 2017) rank higher.
Significance for Boxing and Streaming
Saturday’s spectacle marked the first boxing event ever held at Allegiant Stadium, home of the NFL’s Las Vegas Raiders, and further underscored the shift toward streaming platforms as the sport’s new home for blockbuster events. With Netflix once again posting industry-shaking numbers, the Canelo-Crawford showdown reinforced combat sports’ enduring place as a centerpiece of global live entertainment.
