At 45 years old, Manny Pacquiao is once again chasing history. Aiming to capture another world title nearly three years. After his last professional bout a 2021 decision loss to Yordenis Ugas. Despite his age, the Filipino legend insists he still has the speed, power, and hunger to compete with today’s best. The eight division world champion is set to face WBC welterweight titleholder Mario Barrios on July 19 in Las Vegas, marking Pacquiao’s return to elite level competition.
Manny Pacquiao has reignited talk of a long-awaited rematch with Floyd Mayweather Jr., claiming that his former rival is too scared to accept a deal for a second fight.
Floyd scared?
“I don’t think Floyd Mayweather will fight me again, he’s scared to death to fight again, that’s what I’m thinking,” Pacquiao said.
“It’s a huge fight between me and Mayweather but there’s a lot of reasons or alibis for why he didn’t make it the rematch with me.
“Lots of excuses, I guess.”
The two legends finally met in May 2015, after years of buildup during the peak of their respective careers. Billed as the “Fight of the Century,” their bout shattered pay-per-view records in the U.S., generating over 4.6 million buys and more than $600 million in revenue. The fight itself, however, was a dud with Mayweather winning easily by unanimous decision in a tactical, defense-heavy performance, and Pacquiao later claiming he entered the ring with a shoulder injury.
Since then, fans have long debated whether the two should run it back. While Mayweather has remained retired from professional boxing (outside of high profile exhibitions). Pacquiao last fought professionally in 2021 and is now fighting for history.
