The secondary has been a major point of emphasis for the Las Vegas Raiders during free agency.
Despite losing core contributors such as safety Tre’Von Moehrig and cornerback Nate Hobbs, the Raiders have worked to rebuild that unit. Safeties Jeremy Chinn and Lonnie Johnson Jr. and cornerback Eric Stokes have all been signed to shore up the unit, and the draft is bound to bring new faces into the room. That is a relief for Raiders fans, who witnessed their defensive backs become wrecked by injury over the course of last season.
Those injuries forced others into larger roles than anticipated, and the Raiders rewarded one such player.
On Monday, according to Fox Sports’ Jordan Schultz, the Raiders re-signed cornerback Darnay Holmes to a one-year deal.

A fourth-round pick of the New York Giants in 2020, Holmes signed with the Raiders in August. When Hobbs went down with an injury, Holmes was forced to step up as a slot cornerback. Playing 16 games and starting one in 2024, Holmes recorded 30 tackles and three passes defended.
Holmes turned out to be an indispensable depth cornerback last season, and the Raiders were more than happy to bring him back for 2025.
