On Jan. 26, the WNBA world was rocked with news of a massive three-team trade.
In the deal, the Las Vegas Aces sent two-time champion and three-time All-Star shooting guard Kelsey Plum to the Los Angeles Sparks. The trade also saw Seattle Storm shooting guard Jewell Loyd head to Las Vegas, while Seattle acquired the second overall pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft.
Plum had been part of the Aces franchise since before the team moved to Las Vegas from San Antonio in 2018, and has been one of its leading contributors since being drafted first overall in 2017. Her stable presence in the backcourt will certainly be missed, even with Loyd’s presence.
In an Instagram post sent by Plum on Friday, she said goodbye to the only franchise she has ever played for up to this point, along with a video montage of her highlights with the Aces.
“A move from San Antonio. Bill Laimbeer. Marc Davis. Becky Hammon. Hall of Fame Teammates. Championships. All stars. Gold medals. It’s been an incredible journey to be a part of the Aces organization, and Vegas will always hold a special place in my heart,” Plum wrote in the caption of her post.
Plum would also thank the city of Las Vegas and the Aces fanbase for supporting her and the team, as well as thanking her teammates and coaches for helping her grow as a player and a person.
“Now this chapter closes and our time together comes to an end, but I’ll never forget my time in Vegas, nor the profound impact it’s had on my life. I’ve got nothing but love for the organization, the city, the community and everyone in it,” she concluded.

While it is sad to see Plum go, it is exciting to see what she will accomplish next in Los Angeles.
