With the 55th pick in the second round of the draft, the Los Angeles Lakers select Bronny James out of USC. This pick made history and Lebron and Bronny James have become the first father and son duo ever to play with each other in the NBA. No time in the history of the NBA has a father and son played in the league to together.

As history was made, the odds were on the Lakers side to draft James in the second round. According to Fanatics the odds of the Lakers drafting him were at -160. On Thursday the Lakers made it official.

“In the history of the NBA. There’s never been a father and a son that have shared an NBA basketball court and that feels like something that could be magical,” Lakers vice president of basketball operations and general manager Rob Pelinka said. “We know, and have to respect of course, that LeBron has a decision on his opt-out … but if it worked out that he was on our team next season. NBA history could be made. And NBA history should be made in a Lakers uniform.”

Bronny, 19, averaged 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 19.4 minutes per game in his only season at USC. He joined the Trojans in game action midseason. Sidelining him for nearly five months while recovering from a cardiac arrest episode. Which required surgery to treat a congenital heart defect.

Anthony Davis likes the pick

“He’s very good defensively,” Davis said. “He can read the floor very well. I think he’s a really good playmaker. Saw him work out a couple times besides the Klutch Sports pro day and working with a big — his reads, reading the defense, making the right passes — that was really impressive to me. I think he’s going to be fine, man. Obviously it’s a lot of pressure on him with his dad being who he is.”
