Aces knock off red-hot Lynx

The Las Vegas Aces started off their three game road trip with a big win against the Minnesota Lynx who came into the game 4-1 and one of the hottest teams in the league. The Aces defeated the Lynx 80-66 to improve to 4-1 on the season.

Aces defense holds strong

Coming into this game the Lynx had one of the best offenses in the league averaging 88.6 points per game only behind the Aces who average 91 points per game. Although it was the Aces defense that stole the show limiting the Lynx to just 66 points on 36% shooting from the field.

This was a game that was tied 33-33 with 3:32 remaining in the first half before the Aces closed the half on a 10-1 run to lead by 9 at the half. After taking the lead 43-34 at the half the Aces never looked back as they never trailed during the remainder of the game.

The Aces would find themselves up just four early in the fourth before going on a 15-3 to push their lead to 16 after a Jackie Young three pointer. The Aces outscored the Lynx 32–18 in the paint, which was a significant difference in the game.

A’ja Wilson continues to break records leading the way for the Aces with 29 points, 15 rebounds, 4 blocks and 2 steals. This is Wilson’s fifth straight game where she recorded twenty or more points and ten or more rebounds passing the old record of four which was set by Sylvia Fowles (twice), Tina Charles and Glory Johnson each once.

Jackie Young had another great game finishing with a double-double 19 points on 7-13 shooting and 10 assist. This ends her streak of four straight games of 20 or more points and 6 or more assist.

Kelsey Plum added in ten points of her own to go along with 6 assist, while rookie Kate Martin and Alysha Clark both finished with a couple of threes and nine points each.

As for the Lynx Naphessa Collier came into the game leading the Lynx averaging 23 points a game but was limited to just 18 points on 6-16 shooting. Kayla Mcbride also came into the game hot coming off a 31 point performance only missing one shot and averaging 17 points per game but was held to just 11 points on 3-11 shooting.

The Aces will continue their road trip with a trip to Atlanta for a matchup with the Dream on Friday.
