Takeaways From UFC 300

@Mark J. Rebilas-USA Today Sports

UFC 300 was as good as advertised, providing fans with incredible moments and knockouts. Whether it was newcomers making an impact or champions establishing themselves, the event made good on its word.

With that, there are some notable takeaways from the event. Who won UFC 300 and who lost it? Who’s establishing themselves as a force within the promotion?

Two Electrifying Knockouts at UFC 300

With Max Holloway’s buzzer-beater KO in the fifth round, it provided UFC with a new BMF. “Blessed” was in a tough battle with Justin Gaethje, with both sides going back and forth. But a simple strike put down Gaethje with ease, boosting Holloway’s legendary status.

As for Pereira, he jumped on an open opportunity from Jamahal Hill in the first round and went to work. “Poatan” retained his UFC Light Heavyweight Championship, showcasing his body of work after.

With the best fighters delivering highlight-reel moments, the event showcased the best talent and what UFC has to offer. The next event, UFC 301, will have some big shoes to fill. However, with a nice card of its own, it should deliver in its own right.

What’s Next for Pereira?

On the note of Alex Pereira, he has some aspirations of his own. The UFC Light Heavyweight Champion can continue to dominate the landscape, showcasing his patience and countering ability.

Or, he can expand his footprint. He’s been a champion in the middleweight division, after all. With “Poatan’s” kickboxing abilities, he can make his presence felt in the heavyweight division. If there’s anybody that can take down a few heavyweights, it’s none other than the champion.

Jiri Prochazka’s Redemption at UFC 300

After losing the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship in November 2023, Jiri Prochazka was looking for something in his life. He needed a pick-me-up fight and needed it quickly. Lo and behold, he got it.

Aleksander Rakic felt the brunt of Prochazka’s punishment, getting knocked out in the second round. A barrage of leg kicks couldn’t take down the Czech superstar, putting him back on the winning track.

With Prochazka’s win at UFC 300, it’s a start to his climb back to the top. Thanks to a more patient, enduring fighting style, “BJP” showed he can be a tough fighter to crack.
