A Look Ahead at UFC 301 in Brazil

@Wendell Cruz-USA Today Sports

UFC 300 is going to be an epic celebration. Set for April 13 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, the event will feature an all-star cast, including Justin Gaethje, Max Holloway, Alex Pereira, and Charles Oliveira. But what about the event after UFC 300? What’s going on with UFC 301?

On May 4, 2024, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the UFC is set for an international clash. Pack your bags and get ready to fly out because, after this, it’s time to go to South America. Don’t forget your sunscreen and bathing suit because UFC 301 is going to be a hit in Brazil.

Who’s on the UFC 301 Card?

The main event consists of a flyweight bout between Alexandre Pantoja (27-5) and Steve Erceg (12-1). The fight will be for the UFC Flyweight Championship, with the event going down at Jeunessee Arena in Rio de Janeiro.

Legendary bantamweight Jose Aldo is also on the card, fighting against Jonathan Martinez. The 37-year-old has the home-ring advantage, with the bantamweight hailing from Manuas. For Martinez, he’ll have the daunting task of overcoming this advantage and taking home a victory.

Other fighters include Anthony Smith, Michel Pereira, and Caio Borralho. While the card won’t be as loaded as UFC 300, Dana White does have some notable names here. That should be enough to satisfy the Brazilian home crowd.

What Should Be the Best Fight?

The main event between Pantoja and Erceg should be intriguing. The Brazilian champion incorporates grappling and striking into his fighting style, making him a lethal opponent. Pantoja loves to come out swinging, giving everything he has for every bout. But can he handle the rising star, Erceg?

Another fight to watch for is Anthony Smith (37-19) vs. Vitor Petrino. Petrino (11-0) comes into the fight undefeated, taking down Tyson Pedro (unanimous decision) on March 2. But whose striking style will reign supreme? Will it be the more seasoned Smith or will it be the Brazilian star?

UFC 301 has plenty of storylines that make it its unique entity. While it might not have the appeal that tonight’s UFC event has, it can become extraordinary in its own right. That’s especially true with the hometown talent boosting the event.
