LONDON — Conor Benn promised fireworks in his return to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but while the performance lacked consistent explosiveness, the result left no doubt. Benn (25-1, 14 KOs) secured a unanimous decision victory over former two-time world champion Regis Prograis, with all three judges scoring the bout 98-92 in his favor.
From the opening bell, Benn’s speed advantage was evident. A sharp one-two late in Round 1 visibly wobbled Prograis, signaling what appeared to be an early ending in the making. Benn’s quick hands and constant pressure forced the veteran onto the back foot, as Prograis struggled to find rhythm and balance.
Despite entering the fight with questions surrounding his condition, Prograis attempted to slow the pace and draw Benn into traps — but the younger fighter’s confidence only grew as the rounds progressed.
Missed Opportunities, But Clear Control
While Benn controlled large portions of the fight, it wasn’t without flaws.
Mid-fight, he:
- Became overly patient at times
- Missed opportunities to capitalize on openings
- Left himself exposed to counters from Prograis’ left hand
An accidental head clash in Round 4 opened a cut over Benn’s eye, briefly shifting momentum. Prograis found intermittent success, particularly when Benn loaded up on his right hand and overcommitted. Still, Benn’s activity and output separated the two.
Body Work and Volume Tell the Story
By the championship rounds, Benn made key adjustments especially targeting the body.
CompuBox numbers highlighted the gap:
- Benn threw 126 more punches
- Landed 68 more shots
- Nearly half of his power punches went to the body
Prograis showed toughness, absorbing punishment and lasting the full 10 rounds, but lacked the offensive consistency to threaten on the scorecards.
Eubank Jr. Watches On
Adding intrigue to the night, Chris Eubank Jr. fresh off his rivalry with Benn watched from ringside. His visible lack of engagement during the later rounds told its own story, as anticipation for a potential trilogy or future clash continues to linger.
This wasn’t Benn at his sharpest, but it was still a decisive win over a respected former champion. The performance raises two key takeaways: Benn remains a dangerous contender with elite speed and output But questions remain about his ability to dominate top-tier opposition consistently
Against a faded but experienced Prograis, Benn did what was required but if bigger fights are next, sharper execution will be necessary.
