While the Athletics picked up their first win of the season Tuesday night in Atlanta, the Aviators took their first loss of 2026 at home.
Las Vegas fell 13-8 to Oklahoma City on March 31 at Las Vegas Ballpark, getting tagged for 10 runs across the sixth and seventh innings after playing even through five. The Aviators moved to 3-1.
Gelof sets the tone early
Zack Gelof tied it in the first with a solo homer to left, answering Oklahoma City’s run in the top half. Gelof finished 3-for-5 with a double and three RBI, continuing a hot start at the plate.
Las Vegas stayed within striking distance the rest of the way, then used walks to climb back even in the fifth. Drew Swift’s RBI groundout made it 3-2, and Gelof drew a bases-loaded walk to tie it 3-3.
One inning flips the game
The Comets took control in the sixth.
Oklahoma City loaded the bases, then piled up run-scoring singles before Nick Senzel cleared the inning with a grand slam to center. The Comets scored seven in the frame to jump ahead 10-3, with Tyler Ferguson taking the loss after allowing five runs in 0.2 innings.
Oklahoma City added three more in the seventh to make it 13-3.
Aviators push back late
Las Vegas did not fold. Junior Perez pulled the Aviators closer in the eighth with a three-run homer to center that scored Henry Bolte and Brett Harris.
In the ninth, Gelof drove in another run with an RBI double, then Joey Meneses brought home a run on a fielder’s choice. That cut it to 13-8, but the Comets closed the door from there.
Numbers that mattered
Gelof went 3-for-5 with a homer, a double and three RBI. Perez finished 2-for-5 with three RBI on his three-run homer.
Bolte went 3-for-4 and reached base five times with two walks. Harris did not have a hit, but reached five times with four walks and a hit by pitch.
Las Vegas drew 13 walks, but left 17 on base.
On the mound, Gage Jump allowed one run in 2.1 innings with four strikeouts. The bullpen kept it manageable until the sixth, when Oklahoma City broke through for seven runs.
