Conor McGregor says he feels refreshed, motivated and fully prepared ahead of his long-awaited UFC comeback against Max Holloway at UFC 329. The former two-division UFC champion returns July 11 in a five-round welterweight main event at T-Mobile Arena after nearly five years away from competition.

Speaking on “Mac Energy,” McGregor expressed excitement about finally securing his UFC return after years of uncertainty. “It’s like music to my ears,” McGregor said. “I’m out so long, five years. My body’s fresh. My mind is sharp. I’m ready to come back.”

The Irish superstar also praised the UFC for the new agreement that ultimately brought him back into the octagon. “I’ve got a great deal off the UFC. I’m very, very happy. They honored me, finally.”

McGregor had previously voiced frustration with the promotion over contract issues and delays surrounding his comeback.

Holloway Rematch Headlines UFC 329

The matchup marks a rematch nearly 13 years in the making. McGregor defeated Holloway by unanimous decision in August 2013 during their first meeting at featherweight, despite suffering a knee injury during the fight.

At the time, Holloway was still an up-and-coming prospect. Since then, the Hawaiian star has evolved into one of the greatest featherweights in UFC history.

Max Holloway has since:

  • Captured UFC featherweight gold
  • Won the BMF title
  • Defeated elite names including Dustin Poirier, Justin Gaethje and Jose Aldo

McGregor acknowledged the challenge Holloway now presents. “He’s an established fighter, an accomplished fighter, former UFC world champion,” McGregor said. “This is a quality opponent.”

McGregor Promises Improved Version Of Himself

Despite the respect shown toward Holloway, McGregor remains extremely confident heading into the rematch. “Our last bout was martial arts mastery by yours truly,” McGregor said. “So I plan on doing it again.”

He also claimed fans will see a more evolved fighter than the one who last appeared in the cage. “I plan on showing my growth and my improvements in there.”

According to McGregor, preparation for the fight is already fully underway. “Preparation is going very well. We’re living, breathing and sleeping in the gym.”

The announcement of McGregor’s return immediately sent shockwaves through combat sports. UFC 329 is expected to become one of the biggest events of the year, especially with McGregor fighting for the first time since suffering a broken leg against Dustin Poirier in 2021. Now, the sport’s biggest star officially has a return date and the countdown has begun.
