The mayors of the cities participating in the 2026 Stanley Cup Final have placed friendly wagers on the outcome. This has brought extra excitement to the world of hockey.
On Monday, Las Vegas Mayor Shelley Berkley posted a video accepting a friendly wager proposed by Raleigh Mayor Janet Cowell. This sparked even more interest in hockey among the fans.
Mayor Cowell challenged Mayor Berkley regarding the outcome of the championship series between the Vegas Golden Knights and the Carolina Hurricanes. This friendly rivalry highlights just how much pride and passion there is for hockey in both cities.
If the Golden Knights win, Mayor Cowell will send barbecue to Mayor Berkley. Furthermore, Mayor Berkley has challenged Mayor Cowell to wear a Golden Knights jersey during a city council meeting. Notably, hockey traditions like these wagers have become part of the sport’s excitement.
If the Hurricanes win, Mayor Berkley will send Mayor Cowell a sequined Carolina jersey and will wear a Hurricanes jersey at a city council meeting.
Mayor Berkley also offered to send a “Las Vegas gift basket to die for.”
“If I were you, I would never bet against Vegas,” she added.
Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final is scheduled for Tuesday, June 2, in Raleigh. This will be followed by Game 2 on Thursday. Clearly, hockey fans are eagerly awaiting these dates.
The series will then move to Las Vegas for Game 3 on Saturday, June 6, and Game 4 on Tuesday, June 9.
