Colby Covington Says His UFC Resume Is Hall of Fame Worthy

Colby Covington may be retired from the UFC, but “Chaos” clearly believes his legacy inside the Octagon deserves permanent recognition. In his first interview since officially retiring from UFC competition, Covington argued that his accomplishments, drawing power and longevity make him a future UFC Hall of Famer whether fans like him or not.

Appearing on “The Ariel Helwani Show,” Covington said he doesn’t necessarily care whether the UFC inducts him into the Hall of Fame, but believes his resume clearly stacks up.

“Definitely without a doubt,” Covington said when asked if his career was Hall of Fame worthy.

The former interim welterweight champion pointed to:

  • Multiple pay-per-view main events
  • Years ranked among the UFC elite
  • Massive gates and fan interest
  • Victories over former champions

Covington also referenced his political notoriety and connection to former President Donald Trump as part of his UFC legacy. “Only fighter to bring a world title to the White House to a sitting president,” Covington said.

A Polarizing Career

Colby Covington built one of the most controversial personas in MMA history. Love him or hate him, Covington became one of the UFC’s biggest talking points during the late 2010s and early 2020s by combining:

  • Elite cardio-heavy wrestling
  • Trash talk
  • Political controversy
  • High-profile rivalries

His biggest wins came against:

  • Robbie Lawler
  • Rafael dos Anjos
  • Tyron Woodley
  • Jorge Masvidal
  • Demian Maia

He finished his UFC run with a 12-5 record inside the promotion.

Title Fight Losses Still Define His Career

Despite the accomplishments, Covington never captured the undisputed UFC welterweight championship.

He went:

  • 0-2 against Kamaru Usman
  • 0-1 against Leon Edwards

Those losses ultimately became the defining stain on his career resume. Still, Covington remained one of the UFC’s premier welterweight attractions for nearly a decade.

Hall of Fame Debate Likely To Continue

Statistically, Covington’s case is complicated.

He ranks:

  • Third all-time in UFC welterweight control time
  • Tied for 10th in decision victories at welterweight

But he does not rank among the division leaders in:

  • Finishes
  • Total wins
  • Championships

The debate around Colby Covington will likely center around impact versus accolades. Regardless, Covington says he’s satisfied with what he accomplished. “My numbers and resume speak for itself,” he said. “I have nothing left in the UFC to prove anymore.”
