The Las Vegas Aviators completed a six-game sweep of Tacoma on Sunday afternoon, rallying late for a 5-3 victory at Cheney Stadium.
With the win, Las Vegas improved to 32-23 and extended its winning streak to seven games. The Aviators now sit just one game behind Sacramento in the Pacific Coast League West and have gone 8-2 over their last 10 contests.
Meanwhile, Tacoma dropped to 23-34 and finished the homestand 0-6 against Las Vegas.
Early Deficit, Steady Climb Back
Tacoma struck first in the second inning when Carson Taylor launched a two-run home run off starter Yunior Tur.
However, Las Vegas responded in the sixth. Chad Wallach singled and Colby Halter followed with a base hit. After Halter stole second, Max Muncy lifted a sacrifice fly to cut the deficit to one. Moments later, Joshua Kuroda-Grauer lined an RBI single to right, tying the game at 2-2.
Although Tacoma briefly regained the lead in the bottom half on a sequence that included a throwing error, the Aviators stayed within striking distance.
Defensive Spark Keeps It Close
Las Vegas prevented further damage in the sixth thanks to a pivotal defensive play. With runners moving, left fielder Jared Dickey threw out Victor Labrada at home, starting a sharp relay that went from Dickey to Max Muncy to Michael Stefanic to Chad Wallach. The play preserved the tie at the time and kept momentum within reach.
Later, CD Pelham entered with the bases loaded in the seventh and induced a groundout from Taylor to escape the jam.
Eighth-Inning Rally Seals Sweep
The Aviators broke through in the eighth.
Drew Swift drew a walk and advanced on a pickoff error. Kuroda-Grauer followed with a game-tying RBI single to center. Cade Marlowe then singled to keep the pressure on.
Joey Meneses delivered the decisive blow, ripping a two-run double to left to give Las Vegas a 5-3 lead.
Kuroda-Grauer finished 3-for-5 with two RBIs, while Meneses added two hits and two RBIs of his own.
Pelham Earns First Win as an Aviator
Christian Devont’a Pelham recorded the final out of the seventh inning to strand three inherited runners. As a result, he earned his first win with Las Vegas.
Elvis Alvarado then closed the door in the ninth, striking out two to secure his fourth save of the season.
