Greatness is now officially permanent. Demetrious Johnson, widely regarded as the greatest flyweight in MMA history, will be inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame as part of the 2026 class. Johnson will enter the modern wing during International Fight Week, becoming: The first flyweight fighter ever inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame
UFC CEO Dana White didn’t hesitate when describing his legacy. “Demetrious Johnson is the greatest flyweight of all time,” White said. “His 11 consecutive title defenses is one of the most remarkable records we’ve ever seen in professional sports.”
A Record That May Never Be Broken
Johnson’s dominance at 125 pounds defined an era.
From 2013 to 2017, he defended his title 11 consecutive times, setting a UFC record that still stands.
His resume includes wins over elite competition such as:
- Henry Cejudo
- Kyoji Horiguchi
- Joseph Benavidez (twice)
- John Dodson (twice)
And of course, his iconic suplex-to-armbar finish one of the most creative submissions in UFC history.

Johnson’s UFC career ended in historic fashion not with retirement, but with a trade. In 2018, he was sent to ONE Championship in exchange for Ben Askren in one of the most unique deals in MMA history. Before that, his final UFC fight came in a narrow split-decision loss to Henry Cejudo at UFC 227.
Success Beyond the Octagon
Johnson didn’t fade after leaving the UFC. He continued competing at a high level in ONE Championship before retiring in 2023, further solidifying his reputation as one of the most complete fighters ever. Since then, he’s remained active in the MMA world through:

- Fighter collaborations
- Ongoing influence in the sport
Joining the 2026 Class
Johnson becomes the second announced inductee for 2026. He joins the legendary bout between Zhang Weili and Joanna Jedrzejczyk (UFC 248), which enters the Fight Wing.
