UNLV ran into its roughest night of the season Friday in Minneapolis.

The Rebels were blanked for the first time in 2026, falling 10-0 to Minnesota in seven innings at U.S. Bank Stadium in the Cambria Classic opener. As a result, UNLV dropped to 10-5 overall and 2-2 on the road. The Rebels have also dropped three of their last four.

UNLV finished with four hits and no errors. Minnesota had 11 hits and played clean defense, too.

Lane battled, but traffic kept scoring

UNLV had a quick chance in the first. Reggie Bussey singled through the left side. But he was caught stealing moments later, and the inning fizzled.

Minnesota struck first in the bottom half. A leadoff single turned into a run when a double down the left-field line made it 1-0.

The Gophers added two more in the second without a big swing. Two walks set the table, then a run-scoring single and a sacrifice fly pushed it to 3-0.

The decisive blow landed in the third. Minnesota stacked baserunners again, then a three-run homer made it 6-0. Soon after, a two-run double finished a five-run inning and stretched the lead to 8-0.

Carson Lane took the loss for UNLV. He went 4.2 innings and allowed eight runs on nine hits with four walks and six strikeouts.

Few chances, no breakthrough

UNLV never found sustained offense against Cole Selvig, who controlled the first five innings. Selvig threw 5.0 scoreless innings, allowing two hits with seven strikeouts.

Ayden Garcia singled in the second, but UNLV erased it with a double play. Gunnar Myro singled in the sixth, but the Rebels could not build an inning. Then in the seventh, Nin Burns II doubled to center and moved to third on a wild pitch. Still, UNLV came up empty again.

UNLV struck out nine times and did not draw a walk.

Run rule ends it

Minnesota tacked on a run in the sixth after a triple set up a sacrifice fly to right.

In the seventh, the Gophers pushed across the final run after the bases filled. A bases-loaded walk ended it under the seven-inning run rule.

Gavyn Bowen worked 1.1 innings in relief and allowed one run with one walk and two strikeouts. Cal Barna faced the final frame and was charged with one run while issuing two walks.

Up next

UNLV continues Cambria Classic play Saturday, March 7 against Southern Illinois at 9 a.m. PT.
