LAS VEGAS — The Vegas Golden Knights keep finding ways to win, and Thursday night’s comeback might have been the most dramatic yet. Vegas Golden Knights erased a late deficit, then watched Jack Eichel score at 2:44 of overtime to secure a 6–5 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs at T-Mobile Arena. The win extended Vegas’ streak to six games.
Eichel finished with four points, capping the night by setting up Tomas Hertl for the tying goal on a 6-on-5 with just seven seconds left in regulation before ending it himself in OT.
Vegas thought it had tied the game earlier when Pavel Dorofeyev scored with 4:10 remaining, prompting hats to rain onto the ice. But Toronto successfully challenged for offside, wiping out what would have been Dorofeyev’s hat trick. He still finished with two power-play goals.
The Golden Knights didn’t panic. Eichel found Hertl in the dying seconds to force overtime, and then took matters into his own hands.
Marner’s Return, Stone’s Streak
Playing his former team for the first time at home, Mitch Marner recorded two assists against the franchise he played for from 2016 until being acquired by Vegas last summer in a sign-and-trade. He was loudly booed by a heavy contingent of Leafs fans from pregame introductions onward. The teams meet again in Toronto on Jan. 23.
Captain Mark Stone continued his torrid run with a goal and two assists, extending his points streak to 10 games (nine goals, eight assists). Keegan Kolesar also scored for Vegas.
Goaltender Adin Hill made 23 saves in his first start since a lower-body injury on Oct. 20. Toronto struck early with three goals in the opening 9:57 to take a 3–1 lead, but Hill delivered timely stops to keep Vegas within reach as the Knights mounted their rally.
For Toronto, William Nylander and John Tavares each posted a goal and an assist. Nylander, the Leafs’ points leader with 48, exited in the first period with a lower-body injury.
Auston Matthews, Morgan Rielly, and Scott Laughton also scored. Joseph Woll made 28 saves, while Matias Maccelli and Matthew Knies chipped in two assists apiece. It marked Nicholas Robertson’s 200th NHL game.
