Boxing fans are being spoiled this weekend. On Saturday, Las Vegas will see two pound-for-pound giants collide when Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford meet in a historic undisputed clash at super-middleweight. Less than 24 hours later, the spotlight shifts to Nagoya, Japan, where Naoya Inoue returns home to defend his undisputed super-bantamweight titles against Murodjon Akhmadaliev. With two marquee events taking place on consecutive nights, there’s a strong argument that Inoue’s bout could steal the weekend.
Inoue: Japan’s Pound-for-Pound Monster
Naoya “The Monster” Inoue (30-0, 27 KOs) continues to redefine greatness every time he steps through the ropes. Already a two division undisputed champion, the 30-year-old has become one of the most feared punchers in the sport.
In his last outing in May, Inoue overcame an early scare only the second knockdown of his career before stopping Ramon Cardenas in Las Vegas. That win extended his KO streak and reminded fans of his ability to adapt under pressure. With marquee clashes against Alan Picasso Romero and Junto Nakatani rumored for the near future, Inoue remains the centerpiece of Japanese boxing’s global rise.
Akhmadaliev: A Real Threat at 122
Murodjon Akhmadaliev (30, 12 KOs) isn’t arriving in Japan to play the role of opponent. The Uzbek southpaw is a former unified IBF and WBA champion who held those belts for three years before dropping them to Marlon Tapales in 2023. Since that setback, he’s rebuilt with a three fight winning streak, including capturing the WBA interim belt and earning his shot at Inoue with an eighth round stoppage of Luis Castillo in May.
Akhmadaliev’s Olympic background, southpaw stance, and proven pedigree make him a serious danger to Inoue’s reign. Boxing fans are anticipation a great fight between.
