Joseph Parker isn’t waiting around for Oleksandr Usyk. The New Zealand heavyweight and WBO interim titleholder will instead face British contender Fabio Wardley in a high-stakes clash on October 25 at the O2 Arena in London.

The fight was officially confirmed on Saturday, with promoter Frank Warren billing it as a crowd-pleasing showdown.

“Neither Joe or Fabio wanted to wait about and protect their positions and credit to them both for this,” Warren said. “I believe this is a genuine even-money fight with a mesh of styles that will be eye-catching and highly crowd-pleasing.”

Why Parker Took Wardley

Parker (36-3, 25 KOs) was recently mandated by the WBO to negotiate with undisputed champion Oleksandr Usyk following Usyk’s win over Daniel Dubois. Talks stalled when Usyk was granted an extension to recover from an injury, leaving Parker in limbo. Rather than sit idle, the 32-year-old Kiwi opted to take on Wardley to stay active and keep momentum alive.

Parker has not fought since February, when he stopped Martin Bakole in impressive fashion.

The Undefeated Challenger

Wardley (19-0-1, 18 KOs) is one of the UK’s fastest-rising heavyweights and currently holds the WBA interim strap. The 30-year-old from Ipswich enters the bout on the back of a knockout victory over Australian Justis Huni in June, a performance that cemented his reputation as a dangerous puncher with a growing domestic following.

A win over Parker would catapult Wardley from national prospect to global contender, putting him in the conversation for a world title shot in 2025.
